Shooting Investigation

An investigation is underway after police shot and killed a suspect in Emmett Township early Sunday morning. Calhoun County Sheriff’s Deputies and State Troopers were called to the area of Beadle Lake Road and Columbia Avenue for a domestic dispute. Officers encountered 51-year old Russell Clemence holding a knife. Police repeatedly told him to drop it. He refused and was shot. Efforts to save Clemence were unsuccessful and he died at the scene. An autopsy is scheduled for today. Police say alcohol was a significant factor in the incident.
