Injured Iraqi Boy

A member of the Michigan National Guard will bring a badly burned Iraqi boy from the Middle East to the Lansing area for medical treatment. Michigan State University says a welcome ceremony is planned for Major David Howell and the boy, whose name is Mohammed. The boy was badly burned 12 years ago along the left side of his face, head and body by an exploding oil lamp. He also lost movement in his left hand. Howell is a battalion physician assistant with a Flint-based regiment. He met Mohammed and the boy's mother last November while on duty in Ramadi. Michigan State surgeon Edward Lanigan is offering his services at no cost.
