Road Decay

A new state report says Michigan's roads are getting worse. The study says 26 percent of lane-miles on major roads in the state were in poor condition last year, up from 12 percent in 2004. The report predicts bad roads will make up 45 percent of the total in 10 years unless road spending increases. The figures come from the Asset Management Council Pavement Assessments for the state Department of Transportation. The study rated only 23 percent of mileage in good condition last year and 51 percent was in fair condition.
