Promise Zone

Battle Creek is among ten cities in Michigan expecting ‘Promise Zone’ designation by the Granholm administration. Promise Zones are loosely based on the Kalamazoo Promise, a program which pays college tuition for all students graduating from the Kalamazoo Public Schools. The main difference is that the Kalamazoo Promise is entirely funded by private donations. Promise Zone scholarships will be taxpayer funded, if the so-called Promise Zones can come up with their own funding for the first two years.
