Killed Her Grandmother

A judge has modified the sentence of a girl who was 13 when she killed her grandmother with morphine. Lenawee County Judge Margaret Noe last year sentenced 16-year-old Kristina Adkins to life in prison for second-degree murder in the 2006 poisoning of 53-year-old Virginia Bentley. Adkins pleaded guilty Oct. 10. She would have been eligible for parole after 15 years, but her lawyer persuaded Noe to re-sentence her to 30 to 45 years in prison. Public defender Jacqueline McCann says the new sentence keeps Adkins in prison at least 30 years but increases chances she'll eventually go free. Adkins was living with her grandmother when she killde her.
