Senior Citizens May No Longer be Left in Cold

Senior citizens, impoverished families, and seniors with various disabilities may find financial relief if a recent package of bills passed by the Michigan House successfully makes its way through the Senate. Battle Creek Representative Kate Segal voted for the package of bills, all of which would prohibit electric companies from shutting off or limiting the use of electricity for those who would otherwise left in the cold on account of non-payment. If passed, the bills would ban shutoffs for senior citizens with known medical conditions, would require utility companies to work with seniors who are having difficulty making payments, and would even go so far as to assist impoverished families to obtain the necessary funds to keep their electricity turned on.
