Killer Confesses
A man charged in the slayings of a west Michigan couple has pleaded guilty to two counts of felony murder. Twenty-eight-year-old Timothy Stephan entered the pleas in Grand Rapids. Prosecutors say Robert and Norma Bean were kidnapped from their home, forced to withdraw money from an ATM and then shot to death in a gravel pit in October. The 66-year-old victims lived in Howard City. Assistant Prosecutor Helen Brinkman asked Stephan at the plea hearing which of the Beans he shot. Stephan chuckled and said (-quote-), "Both of them." Stephan faces a mandatory life in prison without parole at a May 7 sentencing hearing.
