Auto Sales Down

Automakers say their U.S. sales fell 37 percen tin March from one year earlier. The monitoring company Autodata reports nationwide light vehicle sales totaled 858,000 last month. General Motors' sales fell 45 percent, Ford's fell 41 percent and Chrysler's dropped 39 percent. For Japanese automakers, U.S. sales fell 39 percent at Toyota, 38 percent at Honda and 36 percent at Nissan. Despite the declines from a year ago, GM, Ford, Chrysler and Toyota all posted double-digit improvements from February, a sign the worst of the sales slump may be over.
