Settlement Reached

A settlement has been reached with the family of an inmate who died in an isolated, hot prison cell in Jackson. Timothy Souders of Adrian died of dehydration and hyperthermia after spending four days naked in the cell in August of 2006. The death of the mentally ill 21-year old raised questions about the treatment of patients in Michigan prisons. The family sued the state prisons and the Missouri-based medical company hired to provide medical care to prisoners. Souder’s family settled for 3-point-2-5 million dollars.
