Recorded Beating
One of two 14-year old Wayland Union High School girls who were recorded beating up a fellow freshman on the last day of classes has been expelled. The school board decided Monday night that the student will not be allowed to return to classes in the fall. The other girl has transferred to another district. Both still face assault charges. A recording of the beating appeared on the internet. Investigators say the pair attacked the other student because she is a gay rights advocate. The beating was investigated as a hate crime, but no hate crime charges were filed because the girls are juveniles.
