Double Murder Suspect Charged

A Fort Wayne man accused in the deaths of his mother and daughter is being held in the Calhoun County Jail without bond. 41-year old Johan Vanniekerk was arraigned Monday on two counts of murder and one count of first degree child abuse. The bodies of 72-year old Brenda and three-year old Laura Vanniekerk were found in a motel room in Marshall Friday. The suspect was found in another room. Authorities are still awaiting autopsy results, but investigators say Vanniekerk killed his mother and daughter with an overdose of medication. He is also wanted in Indiana on a domestic assault charge.
