Car Sales In Free Fall
Automakers say their U.S sales fell 37 percent last month from November 2007. Overall, automakers sold 747,000 cars and light trucks in the U.S. in November. The seasonally adjusted annual sales rate for the month was 10.2 million, compared with 16.1 million a year earlier. The industry information company Autodata says last month's sales rate was the lowest since October 1982. General Motors says its sales fell 41 percent, Ford's fell 31 percent and Chrysler's fell 47 percent. Among Japanese makers, Toyota's sales fell 34 percent, Honda's fell 32 percent and Nissan's fell 42 percent.
