Another Tax Hike Possible
Those seeking to increase road spending in Michigan say the Legislature should act before year's end on gas taxes and license plate fees. A task force has released a report saying Michigan must double spending on roads and other transportation infrastructure. One option during the lame-duck session is raising vehicle registration fees. That could boost revenues so the state doesn't lose out on federal dollars next year. Another option is converting the 19-cents-a-gallon state gasoline tax to a tax based on the wholesale price of gas.
