Mosquito Explosion

Battle Creek is enduring an apparent bumper crop of mosquitoes this year. During Tuesday night’s Battle Creek City Commission meeting, Commissioner Chris Simmons said he and other commissioners have been inundated with complaint calls about the blood sucking pests. Simmons commented that he has checked and the city is doing what it can, treating ponds on city property. But mosquitoes can breed in almost any amount of standing water, no matter how small. Simmons urged homeowners to check their own property for any standing water that can be removed.
